San Diego FC delivered a statement performance on March 11 at Snapdragon Stadium, defeating Liga MX powerhouse Toluca FC 3–2 in the Round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Facing the reigning Liga MX champions, SDFC rose to the occasion. Marcus Ingvartsen was shown a red card in a sequence that also resulted in a penalty converted by Jesús Gallardo, but San Diego responded with resilience and attacking firepower to seize control of the match.
Midfielder David Vasquez led the charge with a brilliant brace, while Anders Dreyer added another goal to fuel a three-goal surge. San Diego native Duran Ferree delivered a composed and confident performance in goal, helping secure a win against one of Mexico's top Clubs.
Late drama only added to the intensity. Manu Duah received a second yellow card in the 85th minute, reducing SDFC to nine men and leading to another Toluca penalty. Despite the pressure and a late push from the visitors, San Diego stood firm to secure a hard-fought 3–2 victory in front of an electric Snapdragon crowd.
