San Diego FC (SDFC) and Right to Dream will host the inaugural Right to Dream Cup presented by Dexcom, the leader in glucose biosensing technology. Right to Dream Cup, taking place from Oct. 10-11 at the Sharp HealthCare Performance Center, will bring together approximately 200 youth players from three participating clubs: San Diego FC, Club Tijuana and C.F. Monterrey for a two-day international competitive experience designed to broaden their perspective of what it means to be an athlete.

The tournament marks the first international youth cup hosted by Right to Dream San Diego, providing an opportunity for young players from across the region to compete against one another while experiencing the holistic player-development philosophy that serves as the foundation of Right to Dream.

Featuring U-13, U-14 and U-16 competition, the Right to Dream Cup will combine elite football competition with experiences designed to encourage character development, connection and personal growth. The tournament will create an environment that mirrors elements of the professional football experience, giving participating players an opportunity to see and experience what the next level of the game can look and feel like.

“The Right to Dream Cup is an opportunity for us to bring our philosophy to life in a meaningful way for young players across our region,” said SDFC Head of Academy Jeff Cook. “We want these players to leave the tournament with more than memories from the field. We want them to broaden their perspective on what it means to be an athlete, build connections with one another and understand that their potential extends far beyond the game.”

Throughout the two-day tournament, participating players will have access to a series of experiences designed to reflect the Right to Dream environment, including a character-development opportunities, player experience area and professional-style media station. The media station will provide players with an opportunity to experience a professional football media environment, while the player experience area will encourage interaction and connection among players from the three participating regions.

The tournament will also provide a unique opportunity to strengthen connections among the youth soccer communities of San Diego, Tijuana and Monterrey, bringing together the next generation of regional talent in a shared competitive and cultural experience.

The Right to Dream Cup presented by Dexcom is part of SDFC and Right to Dream’s broader commitment to developing the next generation of talent through a fully integrated pathway that combines elite football development, education and character development.

SDFC and Right to Dream are operating the first fully funded, privately operated residential football academy and school in Major League Soccer. The academy is designed to provide student-athletes with an integrated educational and football experience while creating opportunities to pursue their academic and athletic ambitions.
