SDFC enters Wednesday’s match with a 6-7-6 MLS record and 24 points following a 1-0 road victory over Southern California rival LAFC on Saturday night at BMO Stadium. The result snapped a six-match road winless streak and marked SDFC’s first road victory since a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on March 7.Â
Portland enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 7-9-3 MLS record and 24 points following a 2-1 road loss to the Chicago Fire on Sunday night at Soldier Field.Â
A Second Meeting with PortlandÂ
Wednesday marks the second meeting between SDFC and Portland this season.Â
The Timbers earned a 2-1 victory over SDFC on April 25 at Snapdragon Stadium in the first meeting between the Clubs this season. SDFC will look to even the season series Wednesday night while earning its second consecutive road victory.Â
Coming Off a Road VictoryÂ
SDFC heads to Portland after earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over LAFC on Saturday night. Â
After a scoreless opening 88 minutes, Anders Dreyer converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give SDFC the lead and ultimately secure all three points. The goal was Dreyer’s eighth of the MLS Regular Season and his 17th goal contribution of the campaign, with eight goals and nine assists.Â
The victory was SDFC’s second consecutive win at BMO Stadium and improved the Club to 3-0-1 all-time against LAFC. SDFC also controlled 56 percent of possession and completed 596 passes compared to LAFC’s 383.Â
Defensively, goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos recorded three saves and his 12th clean sheet of the season as SDFC held on for the victory despite finishing the match with 10 men.Â
The result also marked SDFC’s 22nd all-time MLS Regular Season victory against a Western Conference opponent.Â
Achouri Makes MLS DebutÂ
Designated Player Elias Achouri made his SDFC and MLS debut Saturday night against LAFC, entering as a second-half substitute in the 53rd minute for Lewis Morgan.Â
Achouri, who signed with SDFC on July 24, saw his first MLS minutes in Saturday’s 1-0 road victory and will look to build on his debut as SDFC continues its road trip Wednesday night against the Portland Timbers.Â
Dreyer Continues to ProduceÂ
Dreyer will be unavailable for Wednesday’s match after receiving two yellow cards in Saturday’s victory over LAFC, resulting in a red card and a one-match suspension.Â
The Danish winger leads the Club with 17 goal contributions this season, including eight goals and nine assists. His late penalty against LAFC was his fourth converted penalty kick in MLS play this season.Â
Dreyer has now recorded 32 goals across all competitions with SDFC and leads the Club with 64 total goal contributions over the last two seasons, with 32 goals and 32 assists.Â
A Key Western Conference MatchupÂ
Wednesday’s contest features two Western Conference clubs entering the match level on 24 points.Â
SDFC will look to build on the momentum from Saturday’s victory while continuing its push up the Western Conference standings. Portland, meanwhile, will look to rebound after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Chicago.Â
For SDFC, the match represents another opportunity to collect points on the road before returning home to Snapdragon Stadium later in the week.Â
