Match Recap: San Diego FC Plays to 2-2 Road Draw in First Match Against Inter Miami CF

San Diego FC (SDFC) earned a point with a come-from-behind 2-2 draw against defending Audi MLS Cup Champion Inter Miami CF at Nu Stadium. Danish winger Anders Dreyer had a brace for SDFC but Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez found the net for Miami in the first-ever meeting between the clubs. SDFC also snapped a three-match MLS losing streak with the tie.  

Dreyer found the net early with a left-footed chip past Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair in the 12th minute off a long ball by Jeppe Tverskov. Miami tied the match with a goal by Messi off a free kick from just outside the penalty box in the 24th minute. Suárez gave the home team the lead in the 74th minute on a ball from Rodrigo De Paul on the right side of the box. But Dreyer wasn’t finished, leveling the match in the 82nd minute after another long pass from Tverskov. Goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos finished with six saves, including several standout stops that helped preserve the draw. 

SDFC will remain on the road and travel to face Austin FC Saturday Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. PT at Q2 Stadium.
